I know a lot about thyroid. I struggled for years before getting the right help. Fran, who sent you to Stop the Thyroid Madness is right on. That is one of the all-around best sites for thyroid information.

Did your doc do enough tests? They should be testing TSH, AND FREE T4 AND FREE T3 at the very least. Did they test thyroid antibodies? They should have, but probably won’t because your TSH is “normal”.

They will tell you your TSH is normal even if it is on the outer edges of the range. It should be smack in the middle or a little lower than middle. By the way, TSH is not even a thyroid hormone. It is a pituitary hormone that is supposed to stimulate your thyroid. Doesn’t always tell the full story about whether your thyroid is making enough hormone, or if your cells are actually USING your thyroid hormone.

They will tell you your thyroid is normal if your Free T4 or Free T3 are just a HAIR above the bottom of the range. This is also crazy.

I also found some of the best relief in diet change. The grain and sugar diet of Americans is a thyroid killer…feeds the autoimmunity. If you would like to talk more, email me.

ZILLA! You also should look into doing grain-free/sugar/free/starch-free eating. My life changed after doing so. I used to have arthritic-like joint pain, constant swelling, brain fog. No more.

I’m also having all kinds of miserable endochrine problems, but mine is from damage to my adrenal glands due to all the steroids they had to keep putting me on to keep me alive, and now I can’t function off of them at all and it’s causing other problems. I hope your new doctor can help you, mine have been largely unsympathetic to this new issue of mine, but I see my allergist tomorrow who helped me with the asthma that keeps almost killing me and hopefully he can help me figure out how to taper down the steroids more slowly so I can continue to stay alive and also be able to get out of bed more. I probably need an endochrinologist, but I can barely afford to get to the doctors I already have so I definitely can’t go pay for yet another one, or the damned gasoline I need to get to these people.
Anyway, good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe if the new doc helps you get the thyroid issue under control then you’ll be on the road to wellness again and for good.
