The Sea of Tensions in Asia Pacific Region
The South China Sea has now become a source of tensions between the United States and China, which advocates the resolution of territorial disputes in the region between the parties directly involved.
The frequent differences in trade, human rights and other issues between Washington and Beijing clearly show the interests of the US government in the Asia-Pacific as an attempt to contain the spread and growing influence of the Asian giant.
A fear-mongering Pentagon operation sometimes called the Office of Threat Inflation is now focused to build China into the next imaginary enemy, replacing the Soviet Union that now requires the competitor to be brought to heel.
The new US military posture against China has nothing to do with any aggressive threat from the side of China. The Pentagon has decided to escalate its aggressive military posture to China merely because China has become a strong vibrant independent pole in world economics and geopolitics. Only vassal states need apply to Washington’s globalized world. Like subservient Japan that the US has a historical record of punishing severely for the slightest mistake. The Iraq issue, for example. While gleefully taking in the hundreds of billions from punished Japan to line the pockets of Pentagon, CIA, Congress, and of course the president. The insatiable plundering nature of the USA without dispute.
And so the Asia Pacific region now faces The Obama Doctrine: CHINA - the New Image Enemy.
Angelika Merkel is in China, with hat in hand.
“China is willing, on condition of fully evaluating the risks, to continue to invest in the eurozone sovereign debt market, and strengthen communication and discussion with the European Union, the European Central Bank and the IMF,” Wen said after meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Beijing.
But the Chinese PM said he believed the eurozone would survive the crisis, if it manages to “balance” fiscal austerity and economic stimulus measures.
Unlike the US that bludgeons and bombs nations to PLUNDER , China does what it can to prevent global economic collapse. But then the Chinese are a 5000 year cultured people, unlike the Barbarians of the West with a track record of 5 centuries of murder and plunder.
At the same time Egypt’s president Mursi secured a red carpet welcome from President Hu Jintao and vice-president Xi Jinping . Washington , it is reported, is Apoplectic!
The Muslim Brotherhood leader has sent a clear message by selecting China for his first state visit outside the Middle East. By forging closer ties with China, Mursi is warning the US government not to take Egyptian acquiescence for granted.
Egypt’s economy is hurting badly after the political upheavals that have rocked the country since the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. China is viewed in Egypt as an indispensable source of emergency funding and investment. Egyptian presidential spokesman Yasser Ali explicitly stated that the main goal of Mursi’s trip was to “attract Chinese investment in Egypt”.
Minister of Investment Osama Saleh specifically called for more Chinese money to stimulate the Egyptian economy, saying: “China’s current investment volume in Egypt is very small. It should be among the top three.”
China sees the relationship with the new Egyptian government as essential to geopolitical stability – the second focus of Chinese policy in the ME and elsewhere. The Chinese government wants to avoid destabilizing conflict while consolidating political, economic and military power. China’s economy can only consistently grow in a reasonably stable international environment. War is bad for business. This is especially true in the hydrocarbon-rich ME.
By providing funds and political support to Cairo, China can help to promote a stability-focused, independent foreign policy for the Egyptian government.
Mursi, before his trip to China, specifically promised a balanced foreign policy: “Egypt is now a civilian country … with a democratic, constitutional and modern society. International relations between all countries are open and they must be based on the concept of balance. We are hostile to no one but we are to defend our interests.” This message is music to Chinese ears.
But, China remains focused. The Chinese government is ideologically and strategically opposed to US-led efforts at regime change. It views the Western policy of militarised “democracy promotion” as self-interested meddling in the internal affairs of other countries disguised as humanitarian intervention. Libya cost China billions of dollars in contracts with Gaddafi’s government.
Thorny issues ahead, namely, Syria must come to an understanding. China, along with Russia, has vetoed the possibility of United Nations Security Council-sanctioned military intervention in Syria’s civil war. Mursi, on the other hand, has denounced the Syrian government in unambiguous language, saying, “The regime that kills its people must disappear from the scene.” Both the Middle Kingdom and the Middle East are well positioned to bring relevant regional parties together to try to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Beyond the important implications of Mursi’s China trip for contemporary Chinese policy in the ME, there lies a long-term potential for Beijing to assume a much more assertive regional role. As the US continues to pressure China in East Asia, Chinese leaders are quietly and carefully considering global contingencies. The Middle East, with its vast energy resources, central geopolitical position, and strong anti-American sentiment, could be an ideal location for China to challenge America’s pre-eminent global role.
And Mursi has sent that message to the US. If sufficiently pressured by the US or enticed by China, Egypt could abandon Washington’s camp. Egypt has done it before.
NOBODY commented here b/c nobody cares that China is invading. They can invade b/c AmeriKa does not care
The Chinese are already taking over Amerika. Their armed forces are already in Amerika.
Amerikaners don’t comment for a variety of reasons: too dumb, wait for their children/grandchildren to sort out because as some Amerikaners put it: we are too tired, and too afraid; singing ‘god bless america’ and believing in America’s invincibility; burying their collective heads in the Bog of Denial & Ignorance to escape ‘bad news’ as only ‘feel good news’ is wanted.
While their neo-nutjobs want to war with a nation that makes many of their precious shield system components.
Wanna know where eejuts populate? AMERIKA.
Over the past 48 hours there has been a fervent nationalist surge and anti-Japanese sentiment that resulted in the death of the Japanese ambassador in China, just one week after he took his post.
Long-standing historical and geopolitical tensions between Japan and China are coming to a head over a group of islands in the East China Sea. Japan’s GDP is now declining in real terms, its economy crippled by years of deflation, whose infrastructure is impaired due to anti-nuclear power sentiment, and one which generally can NOT afford an all out diplomatic, political and economic conflict with China.
The popular mood in China is for war. While Japan faces crucial elections, massive protests against Japan erupted in dozens of Chinese cities. In some places, anger was vented against Japanese products and brands. Protesters overturned Japanese-brand cars, set fire to buildings, and smashed Japanese-made electronics.
China has sent six “ocean surveillance” ships to the disputed waters for the purpose of “law enforcement”. The struggle for sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands (called Senkaku Islands in Japan) is heating up at a dangerous time for both countries.
Yu Zhirong, a high-ranking official in the Chinese State Oceanic Administration, upped the ante in a recent interview, saying: “We will have to chase off Japan Coast Guard vessels from Chinese territorial waters. We are not fearful of risking a minor conflict.” While the leadership in both nations might not fear a small symbolic confrontation, the repercussions of such a move would be felt around the world. No one can guarantee that any conflict in the East China Sea would remain “minor”. Japan’s close security ties with the United States would likely drag America into any clash.
Who is prompting the escalating, and why now?
Just blame America, QV…Because it probably is the American govt.
