This made my day. I thought it was gone with the wind. I wanted to be in fashion design… However, after I moved to Cali, it was evident that a straight female is really not a wanted species in the field of fashion and very few women actually make it.
I liked the gypsy look back then. Who would wear that hat? LOL! But, I remember the assignment, and it had to be ‘voguish’ as in Vogue Mag.
“Sacred Threads” actually makes a lot of skirts like this as does “Holy Clothing”. I have a few more fashion drawing illustrations, but they are put away somewhere..
Here it is:

Wow! with an outfit like that you could make an entrance singing “Some Enchanted Evening” just like the gal who sang it while entering the deli in Crossing Delancy.
Pretty good for 14 or any age.

How cool is that? Sometimes a walk down memory lane can be fun!
Nice drawing too – very colorful!

In the ’50s, I worked downtown L.A. in the garment district. One could “shop” in the backrooms and “out-of-sight” areas at truly bargain prices, e.g., $2.00 for a $100 item. However, one had to be very careful if either a “he” or a “she” asked you to get into an elevator to go to the stockroom .. hmm, some of these perverts didn’t care at all about your gender; they just wanted to make sure you double paid for your bargain purchases. I always insisted they enter the elevator first, then I pushed the door shut and sent them on their way. Ha! This was when gays were still in the closet .. or maybe in the elevator?
