Thailand is a Buddhist country. Buddhists recite sutras for all sentient beings. That includes animals. Buddhism has special sutras when animals die. Or suffer horribly in captivity.
The ones who capture BABY elephants and torture those babies are Not Buddhists. They are demons. They will be reborn to pay for their sins. Either as a girl born in a muslim country or as an animal to be beaten to death. Every Thai believes this. Demons do not.
