Not entirely familiar with FL laws, but this is a basic case of ‘stand your ground.’ All right minded people should be locked and loaded carrying guns. When seconds count, the police are minutes away. This is precisely what guns are for. Remember the King riots? Do you recall the 3 Vietnamese men that were on the roof of their store with guns? They didn’t lost their business to looters. But, everyone else did.
Support the 2nd Amendment, and here is why:
Authorities in central Florida say two men were trying to rob an Internet cafe when a 71-year-old patron began shooting his own gun, wounding the suspects.
Williams has a concealed weapons permit. Bill Gladson of the Marion County State Attorney’s Office says the shooting appears justified. Neither of the men have a criminal record, authorities said. Both men were arrested for attempted robbery with a firearm.

What a nice thing, for a change!
Too bad he had such a low-caliber pistol. A Ruger .44 magnum hog leg would have settled their hash. Of course, it would have gone through them, then across the street and through a building, knocking Grandpa’s cigarette out of his mouth….

….and then into the next building, where it would blow Granny’s false teeth out of the glass on the night table….

…and then down the block where it would slam into a pizza oven and splatter sauce all over….

But it would have been worth it.

Good for him, although he will likely be sued or charged with use of excessive force or better because once the men retreat, the law says you must stop YOUR use of force as they are no longer a threat.
A friend of mine was sentenced to hard time for shooting a guy in the ass that would not present his hands, but rather was reaching under a car seat. At the instant between pull on the trigger and bullet strike, the scum bag lurched toward the passenger door, turning him back on my friend.
He eventually got a new trial, but it cost him a fortune.
He didnt have time to look up the laws in that state.. Sut, still–it makes NO sense to not shoot someone that ia robbing you!!

I’m a firm believer in “national concealed carry,” with no licensing/permit requirement. Of course, I live in the only state in the U.S. that doesn’t allow any concealed carry, the filthy, corrupt, criminal-infested state of Illinois. God help me .. how did I end up in this pit? I’ll betcha’ there are lots and lots of folks in this state who nevertheless pack heat, don’t you think?
