‘Space Hurricane’ Northern Lights 2012

This must be brilliant to view in person.  I have traveled to Trondheim and Oslo Norway, but it was in the summer and fall months.

A wave of charged particles from an intense solar storm has pummeled the Earth which has triggered stunning aurora displays and caused minor disruptions to satellites , NASA scientists say.

“It’s a minor to moderate storm,” Yihua Zheng, a lead researcher at the Space Weather Center, told SPACE.com. “People at high latitudes can see auroras. This could maybe cause communication errors at the polar caps, but the magnetic activities are probably not too strong.”

The sun’s activity waxes and wanes on an 11-year cycle. The star is currently in the midst of Solar Cycle 24, and activity is expected to continue ramping up toward the solar maximum in 2013.

    I thought this was so cool, was waiting for a great video to surface. When I was in Norway in the Summer months, I remember we only received 3 hours of darkness. 1am- 4am.

    In the winter, it is the complete opposite, only 3-4 hours of light.

    Most of my life has been comprised of Catholic people.
