My wife was supposed to sing at assisted living today, but being a little under the weather, I went in her place and played disc jockey for 1940s music. While most of the residents are women, there is one man there and what a man he is. He is from the greatest generation this nation ever had, a generation that suffered through 11+ years of depression only to find themselves going right into a world wide war.
I could see him wipe his eyes and blow his nose with almost every song that I played so I knew I had touched him and brought back many memories. Unfortunately, he is now bound to a wheelchair as many of these WWII vets are. When the show was over, I went over to him and kneeled to speak to him at his level. It was then it hit me. I wouldn’t kneel to our president (even if it wasn’t the shoeshine boy, Obama) nor to the royalty of England and not even to the Pope, but I would kneel to any WWII vet.

I am humbled by them. How do you feel???

P.S. Yes, I am a bigot. There are no laws against my being one.

That is precious David. You brought joy into his man life and his spirit.
God Bless.
My dear father passed away in his sleep shortly before midnight Christmas Eve with his family around him. He was a model of courage and grace in his passing. God bless Richard George Edsall…WW2 warrior, fine father, husband and patriot. He was 88. March 23, 1923 to December 23, 2011. I will miss his earthly person.

This sums up perfectly how I feel about our WW II veterans. I am a Canadian reader, but love your blog. This particular quote, however, was really well said. Thank you to my grandfather, Sgt. Robert Holmes, British Army and WWII veteran, 1914-1992.
