Now, see, this reaction from “frumyid” is the very thing that causes me to not associate with “Orthodox” Jews, even though I am what could be called “orthodox-friendly”, and even though I was raised in a frum, kosher home.
“frumyid” does what the Christian Bible calls “strains at gnats and swallows camels”. (Although I do not believe in the Christian messiah, I am very familiar with his teachings because I have studied them to oppose missionaries). I will say, however, that some of what he said makes a lot of sense, esp. since he was speaking to the “Orthodox” Jews of his day.
What galls me about religious Jews the most is that they will avoid noticing the really serious crimes being committed in the world, but will get all legalistic over something like a milchig spoon falling onto a fleishig plate! GET REAL PEOPLE!
The world could be collapsing from leftist erev rav destroying America and Israel, and all the “frum yid” will care about is that someone posted on Shabbos, chas’vesholom!
SPEAK OUT ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS! The regulation about not posting on Shabbos was a rabbinic ruling anyway! What if you are a Jew in an isolated, remote area where there are hardly any other Jews (like where MJ lives), and computer friendship and fellowship is ALL YOU HAVE?
I used to live in a small town where we were the ONLY Jewish family (long story). I used to converse with Jewish friends online because if I didn’t, I ended up with NO Jewish fellowship of ANY kind. Yet the “frum yidden” would rather I have NO Jewish connection at all than do that!
Does that make ANY sense? I don’t think Hashem Yisborach will get upset in cases like that, because I think he understands.
I’ll tell you what I really think. I think “frumyid” is a Jew who possibly grew up in a frum Yiddishe household but is now a leftist, and is USING his background to try to silence MJ. I’ve seen it happen before.
Also, MJ never claimed to be a religious Jew. She is a SPIRITUAL Jew, which is also what I am at this point. I might not follow every tiny speck of Halacha/Jewish Law (for our Christian readers, this means “every jot and tittle”, lol)….but I do believe in Hashem, I pray to Him daily for this country and for other concerns, and I have a very personal relationship with Him. He answers my prayers and “speaks” to me….even though He knows I don’t follow every micro-Halacha.
I know a few things: There is a God. I am not Him. He is ONE, and He wants the world to know Him and worship Him.
I follow the SPIRIT of Torah, if not always the letter. And no, Christians did not originate that idea either!

MJ, Yes, I was offended that he used the term “goyim”. For our gentile readers, let me explain that the Hebrew word “goy” simply means, “nation”. Technically, the Jewish nation is also a “goy”! “Goyim” is simply the plural form of the word.
However, historically Jews have tended to misuse the term in a derogatory way, this is why, although I was raised hearing the term and using it, I do not use it, preferring instead to say “nonJew” or “Gentile”…because I know many nonJews find the term offensive and I don’t want to offend them if they do not deserve it.
Perhaps you and I have a special sensitivity to this since half our families are Gentile (don’t worry, “frumyid”, my mother is Jewish….I know how obsessed you are with making sure every minutiae of Halacha is being followed, lol)….And MJ’s mother is also Jewish, in case you wanted to judge her.
Growing up in a Jewish community I often heard words such as “goyim”, “shiksa”, “shegetz”, “shikker goyim” and the like. My family did not use these terms out of respect for the half of our family that is Gentile. It would be nice if ALL Jews would learn to do this, but we, MJ, have much work to do in that regard.

You know, MJ, I just finished reading Michael Savage’s book, “Psychological Nudity”. Toward the end of the book, he mentions that he sometimes likes to read the writings of other religions, and he says many people are afraid to do that because they think it means they have now joined that religion (I think he had our own people in mind when he said that, lol).
Anyway, he said that he believes in One God, and likes to gather truth and wisdom from other religions’ teachings as well, while remaining a Jew. That’s basically how I am. He also said that people often try out other religions because they think they will find peace in them. He said that genetically people should stay in the religion of their birth, because he said they will never find true, lasting peace in a religion alien to their genetic code. I agree with him on this too.
Jews like you and me are different from what I call “Jew-Jews”. We may be Jewish Halachically, but we have that other half that also influences us and inspires us. We should NEVER be ashamed of that (I know you’re not, I’m mentioning this anyway). It has made us what we are, and I truly believe that because of that, Jews like you and me are more open-minded spiritually, than many “Jew-Jews”. That is always a good thing. It means that maybe we can serve as a bridge between Jews and Christians, so that both “Jew-Jews” and “Christian-Christians” can see that even with the horrible history between our faiths, we have more than unites us than divides us.
I remember reading a story told by a Chasidic rabbi years ago, who taught in a yeshiva. He was unusual, in that he had many Christian friends (he was ecumenical before it was popular!)
One day, he overheard his yeshiva students before class began, making fun of Catholics because they believe in purgatory (a belief that after you die, you need to go somewhere to have sins purged before you can enter heaven, as long as the sins are not too bad.)
Anyway, he quietly listened, and then after class, he told them to follow him, he wanted to show them something.
He took his students into the shul, which was not far away from their classroom. He pointed to the memorial plaques on the walls, with the little lightbulbs next to each one.
He reminded them that those bulbs are lit on the yahrzeit of each person, the 8th day of Pesach, and so on. He asked them why he thought we did that?
They were quiet, and then he said, “So you see, this is our purgatory, our purgatorial society for praying for the dead so they might go to the Olam Ha’ba”.
This is just one example of what I mean….our religions have more that could unite us than that should divide us.
JWN: I just try to follow God as much as possible. I was taught what right is and what wrong is, and at 5 years old, my mom had made a little example;
There was a little girl that was handicapped, my mother told me, dont ever make fun of a little person like this, in fact, you are to stick up for a little person like this.
The very next day in school, there was a handicapped little girl, and YES, she was also Jewish, and the kids were picking on her, one girl in particular, I went right up to the one picking on her and punched her right in the face.
