In the 1980′s, all of my friends had a “Come to Jesus” moment, and they became born again believers. These are my best friends to this day. I was a very prudish young gal, so I never went to rock concerts or stayed out late. This time was different, they all asked me to go to a Christian Rock Concert in S.J., I couldn’t resist, because they all seemed so excited, so I went.
There was a band called “Ruscha”, there were 5 of them singing and playing rock music like Led Zeppelin….it was a fun night, but this fun night turned serious, because the lead of the band who was a bass player (Peter Pankrantz) was going to tell us a story.
He began “Christians here in the USA want to die for God….. “When I was 8 years old, the school took the kids to the gymnasium, there were 2 KGB ‘police officers’, they had the Bible on the floor, they demanded each one of us, come up to the front of the gym, spit on the Bible and renounce God & or Jesus (Jews and Christians had to do this) one by one, each child came up and spit, walking away weeping and crying.”…………….”Then, a little girl came up, and they demanded this little 8 year old girl to spit, NOW!! She refused, she picked the Bible up, wiped the spit off of it, and kissed the Bible. Then, they shot her in the head, she fell over as the blood spilled from her head to the ground.” {It got quiet}
He then yelled at the audience:
“CHRISTIANS IN AMERICA WANT TO DIE FOR GOD……
YOU DON’T EVEN LIVE FOR HIM!”
Many people got up and left. I sat there shocked and wept hard. I remember thinking: THANK GOD I live in a FREE country.. That was 1988. I can no longer say this, I can no longer say we are “free”, we are not free. With the “Obama-Care” vote, we have LOST our freedom. We will now emerge into a Kommunist Dictatorship, people.

MJ, The more I read of your posts, the more I see how much we are alike.
My mother was a convert to Orthodox Judaism; she had been raised a very traditional Catholic in a time when the church was very anti-communist. She absorbed that, and instilled it in me.
As a child in the early 1960s, I remember Mom telling me how evil communism was, about the Iron Curtain (which I in my childish mind envisioned as an iron shower curtain!), and she stressed the freedoms we had in America.
We used to donate to Radio Free Europe so that the US could send the truth to Communist countries (even though the Reds were jamming our signals to prevent it.)
When the Berlin Wall fell, I stayed up all night with my husband, crying. I was so so happy. That wall symbolized my childhood; Mom told me stories of people who were shot trying to escape.
My mom was a big fan of the late Senator Joseph McCarthy, despite the slanderous campaign carried out against him. To this day I have a framed portrait of him hanging in my living room.
God help our nation. I thank God my parents and Senator McCarthy are not here to see it.
May God have mercy on our nation.
